Create, preview, and publish V3 menu boards

Last updated 2026-08-063 min read

Build fixed-template boards with manual products and assets, then separate draft saving from governed publication.

On this page

Digital Signage V3 builds passive menu boards from fixed templates, manually selected menu items, scenes, and template-specific content slots. Saving a draft and publishing a live board are separate actions.

Choose a template and the products to show

  1. Open Admin → KDS & Guest Displays → Signage Templates or Control panel.
  2. Choose one of the canonical V3 designs or a vetted expansion renderer.
  3. Under Manual Menu Board Items, set the target screen count and select only the products that belong on this board.
  4. Add more scenes when the menu needs more pages instead of forcing every product onto one screen.
  5. Use Scene Preview to check the TV-sized result.

The builder does not automatically publish the complete catalog. Each visible product slot must resolve to an available product in the Display catalog snapshot. Removing an item from the board does not delete the underlying catalog product.

Fill fixed content slots and upload images

Open Assets & Content and fill the slots required by the selected template. Depending on the design, these can include a hero image, background, logo, promotional banner, QR asset, category icon, headline, supporting copy, offer text, or footer text.

Image uploads are limited to one image file at a time with a maximum size of 12 MB. The upload returns a same-origin display URL and places it in the current slot, but the board change is not retained until you select Save draft. Uploading an image by itself does not publish it to a live TV.

Changing templates can change the available slots and product capacity. Review every scene after a template change instead of assuming the old layout will map exactly.

Save, preview, and publish

  1. Select Save draft after editing products, scenes, assets, assignments, schedules, or an emergency notice.
  2. Open Preview & Publish and compare the preview with the intended screen count.
  3. Resolve every Publish blocked error. Required slots, minimum product counts, unresolved product slots, missing scenes, and invalid screen targets can prevent publication.
  4. Review quality warnings. A warning about missing stable screen IDs does not always block publication, but it means players may use default scene rotation.
  5. Select Publish board only when the board is ready for live screens.

The public /digital-menu player uses the published board, not unsaved edits or the saved draft. Publishing creates a governed revision. If another administrator publishes first, reload the latest board before trying again rather than overwriting the newer revision.

Use an emergency notice safely

In Preview & Publish, enable Emergency full-screen notice only when the regular menu must be temporarily covered. Enter the headline and message, then choose target screen IDs. No target selection means every assigned screen.

The notice overrides the rendered board without deleting its scenes, products, or schedule. It follows the same draft and publish flow, so saving the draft alone does not put the notice on live screens. Disable it, save, and publish another revision when normal content should return.

Verify the live result

Open each stable /digital-menu?screen=<id> URL and confirm its assigned scene, current schedule, product prices, imagery, and revision. A correct editor preview proves that the renderer can display the draft; it does not prove that the physical player is online or using the latest published revision.
