The Kiosk device fleet controls enrollment, placement, table binding, per-device overrides, launch links, and health. Configure the shared kiosk experience first, then use device overrides only for a real device-specific need.
Review fleet readiness
Open Admin → Kiosk → Devices. The summary shows ready devices, publish blockers, online devices, standalone kiosks, tabletop kiosks, and the active experience preset.
Before opening a device, confirm the kiosk channel is enabled and review any publish blockers. An enrolled device is not ready for guests until its configuration is publishable and its current heartbeat is online.
Configure a device
- Select Configure device for the kiosk.
- Enter a clear Display label and Physical location.
- Choose the Kiosk type or placement mode.
- For tabletop service, assign the Fixed tabletop table when the device belongs to one table.
- Review Dine-in mode, Guest label wording, and Table entry timing.
- Enable Split payment only when the store supports that guest flow.
- Review Home layout override, Theme template override, and Idle timeout (seconds).
- Save, then reopen the device to confirm the effective configuration.
The device card identifies settings that are Fully inherited or overridden. Prefer inherited values so fleet changes remain consistent. Use an override only when this kiosk must differ from the shared policy.
A Table Order Kiosk without a valid fixed POS table is blocked from ordering and tells the guest to ask staff to assign the tablet. Assign the existing POS table on the device record; do not use a typed table number as a substitute for the fixed device binding.
Launch and test
Use Open this kiosk device to test the assigned launch surface or Copy kiosk launch URL for the approved device setup. Complete a controlled order that covers the intended order type, table behavior, modifiers, payment option, receipt behavior, and KDS handoff.
For tabletop mode, verify the fixed table or guest-entered table appears on the resulting order. For standalone mode, verify the guest receives the configured order-type and pickup flow.
If a device is not ready
- Offline: confirm network, activation, store assignment, and heartbeat.
- Publish blocker: open the blocker details and correct the missing shared or device setting.
- Unassigned tabletop kiosk: assign a valid table before service.
- Unexpected layout or theme: check whether the device has an override instead of inheriting the active template.
- Wrong launch experience: confirm the copied URL belongs to this device and store.
Use Deactivate device only when the kiosk should no longer operate. Deactivation is not a troubleshooting refresh and should not be used to clear a temporary network problem.
