Connect, route, and test printers

Last updated 2026-08-062 min read

Register certified receipt or kitchen printers, assign defaults and routes, and verify physical output.

On this page

Register each physical printer once, assign the correct purpose, and confirm actual paper output before service.

Choose a supported printer path

Ellich's certified commercial profiles cover Epson TM series and Star Micronics TSP100/TSP143 families. Windows can use approved USB printer queues or supported network paths. Android POS printing requires a certified Epson or Star network profile with AirPrint / IPP available on the store LAN.

Install the vendor driver or utility and complete its own test before registering the printer in Ellich.

Register and route the printer

  1. Open Hardware Setup > Printers for the correct location.
  2. Choose receipt, kitchen, or the available printer purpose.
  3. On Windows, select Load Windows queues when using an installed Epson or Star queue.
  4. Save the printer with a name that identifies its physical position.
  5. For customer receipts, select Set as location default or configure a Terminal receipt override for one POS or Kiosk.
  6. For kitchen output, assign the printer to the intended prep-station route.

A terminal override takes precedence over the location default. A saved printer that is neither the active default nor assigned to a route will not receive the expected job.

Run a real test print

Select Test print and then inspect Jobs.

  • QUEUED means the job is waiting; it does not prove paper printed.
  • SENT confirms the active store runtime delivered the job to the configured printer path.
  • FAILED requires inspection of the error, printer connection, driver or network path, and assigned runtime.

Keep the assigned Main POS / Store Edge open while testing. Confirm the physical paper, correct printer, readable text, paper width, cut, and cash-drawer kick when that printer controls a drawer.

If nothing prints

  1. Confirm power, paper, cover, cable or LAN, and the printer's own status.
  2. Confirm the Main POS / Store Edge is online and the printer belongs to the same location.
  3. Check whether the terminal inherits the location default or has an override to another printer.
  4. Check the prep-station route for kitchen tickets.
  5. Inspect the latest job status before creating another test.

Do not repeatedly queue jobs while the store runtime is offline. Restore the connection, then test once and verify SENT plus physical output.
